YARROW (Flower Heads) Achilla millefolium 

 Yarrow Essential Oil has a sweet, spicy aroma; this oil is very similar in aroma, colour, chemical composition and action to German Chamomile.

It is a gentle and soothing oil comforting for the nervous system good for the circulatory system assists with a restful night.

Yarrow Essential Oil’s high azulene content gives Yarrow its powerful anti-inflammatory action which is even higher and therefore better than German Chamomile or Blue Tansy. The azulene also gives Yarrow oil anti-infectious properties for effectively treating infections. It can be used externally for wounds, burns, rashes, sores and inflamed skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis

Yarrow essential oil has balancing, soothing and liberating properties. It is helpful for stress, nervous tension and is believed to be invaluable in treating insomnia. On an emotional level Yarrow is said to help strengthen intuition and insight and help people to become more open.

Yarrow’s powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory action can be used to treat a wide variety of complaints including fever, respiratory infections and digestive problems. It can also be used for Hay Fever during a high pollen count to help maintain easy breathing.

Yarrow’s astringent and regulating properties also make it helpful for balancing oily skin, hair and scalp conditions. Yarrow oil is believed to strengthen the hair shaft, treat split ends, stimulate new hair growth and promote a healthy scalp

Although most essential oils blend well together, Yarrow oil blends particularly well with  Angelica Seed, Cedarwood, Pine, Valerian, Vetiver and Lemon Verbena.

Chemical composition

The main chemical components of Yarrow oil are tricyclene, a-pinene, camphene, b-pinene, sabinene, borneol acetate, 1,8-cineole, y-terpinene, limonene, isoartemisia ketone, borneol, camphor as well as traces of chamazulene – giving the blue color.

Extraction

Unicorn aromatherapy’s Yarrow Essential Oil comes from Bulgaria and is extracted from the dried flower heads by steam distillation.

Precautions

Do not use Yarrow oil during pregnancy. Prolonged use may cause headaches and may irritate sensitive skin.
